“Never explain yourself to people who are already dedicated to misunderstanding you.”
The truth is, in life, there will always be people like this.
It’s a harsh reality to reckon with, but pretending it’s not there isn’t an option.
We all know that the people we surround ourselves with matter. It matters who we trust, who we’re vulnerable with, and who we choose to help shape the person we want to become.
But what we don’t talk about enough is the energy we waste trying to convince those who have already decided we’re wrong.
That energy could be spent on the people who genuinely want to understand us and approach our words with curiosity rather than judgment.
Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do for ourselves is to stop performing for an audience that will never applaud.
