“Maybe your garden isn’t growing because every time a flower grows, you cut it to prove to someone that you’re a gardener.”
I came across this quote in one of Hanan Abdu’s videos and immediately paused.
This has become my biggest lesson so far in 2025—something I’ve recognised and started to unlearn within myself.
I frequently cut my garden flowers prematurely, and I’ve witnessed the damage this causes. It steals the innocence of allowing something to fully develop its own beauty. It robs the roots of their story and interrupts a natural cycle when some flowers need to bloom and fade to help the plant grow stronger.
Many plants need time, tending, and trust. Not everything can be forced to flower before its season.
Some seasons are about leaves, others about waiting. The unseen work is often the real work.
So, instead of constantly harvesting for others to admire, let your garden become a place of rest and contemplation.
At the end of the day, you’re the one who needs to enjoy your flowers, not just present them as proof of your gardening.
