Today marks the official lead-up to my 35th birthday.
So, for the next 22 days (until my actual birthday), I’m focusing intentionally on 22 things I absolutely love.
My list isn’t ranked in order, but each day follows a theme and builds upon the day before. The first on my list is ‘being creative’.
I have written about this before, and I will continue to write about being creative, as it’s literally part of my DNA. It’s the foundation of all that I am, who I want to be, and what I have to offer this world.
Being creative carries particular character traits that are rarely seen in people who aren’t creative. That’s not to say one person is better than the other. It’s simply acknowledging that our minds and perspectives are different and unique.
When I was younger, being creative meant having a talent for drawing. Since growing up and attending art school, being creative now holds a much more profound meaning. It means seeing and understanding this world in ways I never knew were possible. It means processing and feeling things deeply and being transformed by the nuance of something that captivates me.
Creativity is more than just being able to make something; it means having the curiosity to explore things for no reason other than the pure joy of embarking on a journey of discovery.
It’s been 12 years since attending art school, and only now do I understand the fullness of what it means to freely explore and create in ways that feel intuitive.
I love this side of me. I love getting to know her and seeing how endlessly adaptable she can be. Being creative is one of the things I’m most proud of, and as I step toward 35, I’m excited to surrender to whatever creative adventures await—trusting that each one will reveal new depths of who I’m becoming.
