Day 28

The creative process is an interesting space.

I love how Ryan Holiday describes the creative process through ‘the resistance’ concept.

Every artist and creative trying to do something, big or small, faces ‘the resistance’. There are moments when you know you want to create, but some part of you whispers to wait. Do it later. Do it when you have more experience or qualifications.

Do it when inspiration strikes.

It’s a battle with two selves pulling away from each other – your lower self clinging to safety, your higher self reaching for growth. Damn, it’s hard.
But these moments of battle are crucial. Choosing to do it later only strengthens the resistance. Choosing to wait leaves you standing still, and stillness breeds frustration, unrest, and guilt.

A few things I’ve accomplished recently have only been possible because I chose differently. I decided to defy the resistance and shatter the mindset of ‘later’…

These decisions have birthed a confidence in myself that I hadn’t even imagined possible. And this confidence fuels my ability to choose creativity again and again. It’s become life-giving!
