Day 5

I started moving my body today. It was a little over 5500 steps along the Sea Point Promenade, one of my favourite places.

It wasn’t huge, but it’s definitely a start on a journey of changing my mindset about what exercise, health, and weight mean to me.

I don’t have a New Year’s resolution to lose weight, but I have a goal this year. I want to consistently maintain an exercise routine, be a medium again, and make a habit of moving my body because it feels good.

Of course, I came in hard on myself. Judging the burning sensations, questioning when I’ll be able to run again and being disappointed by my shadow…

My husband said these simple words: ‘Be gentle with yourself’.

I’ve said these words to people around me countless times. But the moment I heard him say them, my body disengaged. It put down the spotlight it was using to show me my every bump and made me recognise that I was doing my best.

And that’s beautiful!
